Task force protection exercise…what does that mean well coming onto post will be difficult if you do not have Ft. Wainwright Post decal stickers on your vehicle (s).  Those that do not register their vehicles or put on decals will have to go to sign in, show proof of insurance, DoD card and drivers License before being allowed on post.

Director of Public Works (DPW) – Mr. Mike Meeks 361-7287

Contractors will begin work Monday, March 8^th on the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Meridian and Montgomery roads.

Drivers on post will encounter a traffic diversion at the intersection while contractors work on the project.

Meridian Road will be closed from the police station to Neely Road. Montgomery Road will be closed on  both ends of the intersection with Meridian. Detour signs will be posted.

The work is expected to last until March 20.

Post officials ask that all drivers use caution and be prepared for delays as the contractors work to complete the project.

Our March event is geared towards the whole family. Join us for a FUN Bowling Night on Tuesday, March 16th at the Nugget Lanes Bowling Alley on Fort Wainwright at 5:30pm – 8:00pm! Husbands and kids are welcome to attend. We will have dinner potluck-style, so bring your signature dish to share with everyone!  CSC will provide the main course, members with last names of A-M bring a side dish.  Members with the last names of N-Z bring a dessert.

At this event every member will also have the chance to vote on our proposed by-law changes that the CSC board worked on the last month. SO DON”T MISS OUT ON THIS OPPORTUNITY! We hope to see all members at this FUN and important event.

Stay off the Chena River!!! This is a fast moving river very unpredictable.  This winter was mild compared to the past, the river is already melting in areas please be cautious!

Dental- go to www.tricaredentalprogram.com click on enrollee, “find a dentist tab”.  Use one of the preferred dentist listed.  Not using one of the listed dentists can cause you to pay more for treatment.  If your dentist isn’t listed it doesn’t mean they cannot bill United Concordia.  They can and will but United Concordia will only pay a certain amount.  With Dentist listed on the site…they have agreed to charge a certain $$ amount and of course you pay the remaining balance.  With others that are not listed on the site…they are not in agreement with United Concordia and can charge you way over the amount…. United Concordia will pay their part but you can still be stuck paying $100-$1000 more.

Traffic Accidents on Fort Wainwright……SLOW DOWN!!!!  In January FWA had 59 traffic accidents due to reckless driving on post.  Slow down!!!

B arrack Lockouts – cost $100 a call for the fire department to be dispatched. DES is working on getting a set of keys to Brigade Staff Duties to cut this cost to the Army and to make sure soldiers who are repeatedly locking themselves out….don’t do it anymore.

Super Bowl Party- The Zone     Football game kick off starts at 2 PM, Doors open at 1 PM. Open to all DoD card holders 18 and older. Win a recliner, drawing starts after the game, must be present to win.

AFAP (Army Family Action Plan) can still use volunteers. This provides a way for soldiers and Family Members to let Army leadership know what works. It remains the primary means for commanders at all levels to learn of and seek solutions to the concerns of the Army Community.  Call 353-2382 to see how you can help. Conference dates are Feb 24 to 26 8-3:30 at the LFCC. Interested parties must have childcare sign up names turned in no later than COB 8 Feb. Childcare is FREE.

Seward Resort is open all year long and has many winter activities to offer. Snow machining trips, dog sledding and more.

Bear Highlights for February is out…. Pick up at any MWR location.  (I have a few at the BN on the table). Lots of with what’s happening on post this month, CSC activities etc….

Recreation Center will be open this Saturday Feb 6^th @ 11am during the Yukon Quest so that if you would like to watch the race you can do so here….free hot chocolate.

Teddy Child Watch Program is also seeking volunteers. CPR Certification is required and ASYMCA will now cover the cost of any volunteers that are interested ($85). Volunteers with this program will provide intermittent on-site child watch services for scheduled medical appointments.

Self Help Class online is still available and highly encouraged. FREE medicine is available. Examples are Tylenol, Motrin, Robitussin, Saline Drops, Cepacol drops.
H1N1 and seasonal flu shots are available for all ID Card holders.
Hospital Surveys get mailed to your home following an appointment.  Do not throw them away. Please respond to let the Army know how your facility and doctors are doing. A good deal of funding comes from the responses of those surveys. Every one of them that gets thrown away could be $100 lost going to the hospital to better programs.

Ice Dogs Hockey- Feb 12 is Military Appreciation Day tickets 2 for 1 at the door.  Big Dipper doors open at 630 PM and game begins at 730 PM. Tickets can also be purchased at ASYMCA $9.00 for adults, $4.50 for children bldg 1047#4.

ACS will be conducting a Family Assistance Center (FAC) exercise on February 17, 2010.  It is currently scheduled to begin between 0800-1100, with After Action Review at 1330.  ACS will call all role players when the FAC has been activated.  All agencies/FRSA’s on post will be participating and have a role in this exercise.  ACS is asking for volunteers who would like to participate in the exercise to contact ACS @ 353-4332.  Volunteers are not required to be available the entire time, you will need to leave a good contact number so that you can be reached when the exercise begins.  Child Care is available and will be paid for by ACS (registration for child care is required before Feb.17th).

Reason for this exercise is to understand the Family Assistance Centers purpose.  What FAC can provide and review roles of key agencies.  When the Strykers were extended in 2007 it was a mess, so ACS has decided to conduct this exercise yearly so that we can be better prepared.

The next IPR will be held on February 10, 2010 @1330 (Walk Thru of the exercise etc)

FRG’s please share with families so we can get as many volunteers needed for this exercise.
